Review of Castelluccio

Dream trip 2024

Two statements from participants perfectly describe our ground handling week: “My bag has been filled with beautiful, unforgettable moments”, to which another participant replies: “and my stomach with good food and good wine”.

A good team, good weather and the Pian Perduto with its flying areas and culinary delights provide the basis for this.

We were in the air for eight out of eight days. The wind and weather made it possible to fly all around us, one after the other! On the day of arrival we had ground handling and a glide from the Forca di Presta. Then the Rotonda spoiled us with ground handling and flying, followed by a wonderful flights to San Pellegrino. We also took off there in the morning of the following day, for more beautiful flights, and after lunch the Vettore lured us and allowed some spectacular flights over the plain and Castelluccio, which was still mostly in ruins.

There was a little more wind from the south and some drizzle on Tuesday, which made Fontanile and handling on the flats possible. The wind continued to turn clockwise, ideal for Fontanile at sunrise over the fog and then breakfast in the hotel! Enough? No! Fantastic thermals and handling conditions for dessert and to finish it all some delicious pasta from Anna.

Over the course of the week, the wind shifted further to the northeast, which made it a bit foehny in the village. So off we went to Caccamo for intensive ground handling and, when the gusts died down a bit, we had some nice flights from Sarnano. There we also enjoyed spectacular flights on what was supposed to be the last day of flying, with clearly visible progress in handling by all the pilots. On the day of departure, a few hard-boiled pilots did not miss the opportunity to climb Fontanile again for the sunrise flight - in fantastic morning light conditions. Beaming faces and participants making visible progress - what could be better for a flight instructor!

Thank you dear Castellucio travelers for this great week!
